Surveillance footage reveals that drivers are deliberately “dooring” bicyclists in Oakland
Cyclist groups in Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville claim drivers are deliberately targeting their members. Some cyclists reported being hit or nearly hit, and surveillance video shows a car opening its passenger door to hit two riders.
Around 14 people reported being targeted, and eight were injured, with two hospitalized. The incidents occurred during a bike gathering in Rockridge. EBBP reported some incidents to the police and is focusing on improving bike lane safety by talking to local city councils.
They say building better infrastructure is the key to preventing such intentional conflicts.
